On April 23, China Shenhua successfully operated two 5,000-tonne test trains under the group operation control system between Dalate North Station and Wanshuiquan South Station. By optimizing departure and tracking intervals, China Shenhua has achieved the first efficient tracking operation of heavy-haul group trains, marking an original technological breakthrough in heavy-haul railway transport worldwide.
Through continuous exploration and innovation in heavy-haul group operation technology, this trial made great achievements, including a departure interval of 5 minutes and 50 seconds, a dynamic tracking distance of 959 meters at a speed of 60 km/h, and an extreme dynamic tracking spacing of 334 meters, representing a crucial advancement beyond traditional heavy-haul transportation and organization techniques, following the previous achievement with two single locomotives operating in group mode in 2024, and offering a new direction for enhancing heavy-haul railway capacity globally.
China Shenhua will continue to organize group heavy-haul trains tests with 3 and 5 locomotives, ultimately operating seven 35,000-tonne trains across full scenarios from Dongsheng to Wanshuiquan South Station in the 9 stations and 8 sections, laying a solid technological foundation for the further applying the heavy-haul train group operation system and for promoting group train operation technology across the industry.
